AMALTAS AKA GOLDEN SHOWER
The golden shower tree (Cassia fistula), also known as the Indian laburnum or Amaltas, is a medium-sized deciduous tree native to South Asia and widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. It is celebrated for its stunning, cascading clusters of golden-yellow flowers that bloom in summer, often covering the tree in a vibrant display. The tree has smooth, grayish bark, pinnate leaves with multiple oval leaflets, and long, cylindrical pods containing seeds embedded in a sticky pulp.
The golden shower tree is deeply rooted in cultural and religious traditions, symbolizing prosperity and renewal in many regions, and is even the national tree of Thailand. Besides its ornamental appeal, the tree has uses in traditional medicine, with various parts—flowers, bark, and pods—used to treat ailments. Its hardiness, drought resistance, and stunning blooms make it a popular choice for avenues, gardens, and parks.
