RAINTREE AKA MONKEY POD
The rain tree (Samanea saman), also known as the monkey pod tree, is a large, fast-growing tropical tree characterized by its wide, umbrella-shaped canopy. Native to Central and South America, it thrives in warm climates and is widely planted in tropical and subtropical regions for shade and ornamental purposes. The tree has compound leaves with a fern-like appearance that fold at night or during rain, giving it its name. Its trunk is sturdy, and its bark is rough and grayish-brown. The rain tree produces small, fragrant pink and white flowers arranged in clusters, attracting bees and other pollinators. Additionally, its pods are rich in nutrients and often consumed by livestock. Its ability to fix nitrogen in the soil makes it an ecologically valuable species, promoting soil fertility and supporting biodiversity.
